Father’s Day is fast approaching. Showing appreciation for the special man in your life doesn’t have to be a stressful ordeal. We’ve put together some gift ideas to help with the annual dilemma of what to get for dad.

  • Favorite sweets – Food can be shared and enjoyed in the moment, which is good for individuals with dementia. Just don’t go against any dietary restrictions or doctors’ orders.
  • Music player – Music can bring extra joy to your loved one’s life, and studies have shown that it benefits Alzheimer’s patients. The “Simple Music Player” is designed especially for people with dementia in mind.
  • Digital photo frame – A digital frame can hold lots of pictures, allowing Dad to relive many favorite memories.
  • Puzzles or favorite board games – These can be enjoyed together as a family.
  • Time together – Get out to a movie or restaurant, or spend time baking a favorite treat or looking through photo albums. Perhaps treat Dad to a Cardinals game and stop by Ted Drewes on the way home.
  • Senior-friendly mobile phone – Products like Clarity Pal, Jitterbug and Just5 give seniors the ability to remain connected.
  • Custom gift basket – Gift baskets add personal touch to practical products.
  • Tablet – These all-in-one devices are nice for seniors thanks to touch-screen technology and large print options. Tablets can entertain seniors with games, photo sharing, books to read, streaming media and surfing the web. There are even simplified tablets like GrandPad.
  • Gift certificates to favorite restaurants – If your father is still independent, gift certificates allow him an entertaining lunch or evening out.
  • Home helper – An in-home helper can assist with household chores, even just once a week for seniors who need a hand but don’t want to ask for help.

Remember, it doesn’t have to be extravagant, just think of what your dad might like and make the most of your time celebrating together.
