Movies, Memory and a Program Coming to a Theater Near You
The AMC Creve Coeur 12 Theater is hosting a movie series with St. Louis seniors in mind. Every Monday in September, the Silver Screen Series will highlight films that explore positive aging themes.
Movies begin at 1:00 p.m., with an optional discussion afterwards. Screenings are free of charge, but reservations are recommended. Click here for a flier with full details.
Movies are a great way to enjoy time with elderly loved ones and can even have positive effects on seniors with Alzheimer’s disease and dementia. Former favorites can bring back fond feelings and spark conversation.
Movies are also a great way to bridge generations. For me, it has always been a delight to watch my grandmother’s favorite movie, The Quiet Man, and hear about her travels to Ireland as we watch John Wayne cross its beautiful landscapes.
TV channels such as Turner Classic Movies and TVLand are great resources for classics from an earlier era, as is the library, which may even deliver directly to homebound seniors or their caregivers.
At SHC, we go to great lengths to find an ideal client and caregiver match. Sometimes, the mutual fondness of old westerns or episodes of I Love Lucy can turn a situation of providing care for safety and health into creating a new bond as well.
